Applets are a great tool to use in the classroom, because they load quickly, and do not require much time to learn how to operate.
The biggest challenge for teachers is finding the right applet which will enhance student's understanding and promote a greater level of achievement towards a learning goal. Ideally, an applet that promotes conceptual learning must "demonstrates the mathematics dynamically, rather than with static images, and permits customization to encourage students who ask 'What if?' questions" (Jacques, 386). Applets help students to generate ideas about what is going on, helps modify ideas with "What if?" modifications, add to their list of ideas, or confirm ideas they already have.
Below is a video that gives you a brief tour of the website. Enjoy!
Wow this is great! I really like the first sentence. What a catch!
ReplyDeleteThis overview really makes me want to learn more about applets and there are also a lot of information. Great podcast! It was a good pace and very informative!
The video is a little long for me, but I also have a short attention spam, so it might just be me. Illuminations seems like a wonderful website to use.
ReplyDeleteHi Joy, I noticed you commented on Janelle's spelling. I'd just thought you might want to know you typed spam there instead of span :)
